Responsive Design
One of the best ways to increase sales on a website is to make your website responsive. Responsive design allows for your website to be displayed perfectly on all devices; including phones, tablets, PC, and more. Essentially, this process ensures that the elements on the page of your website will transform to adapt to any screen size.
But exactly just how effective is this change? Data indicates that 40% of users will leave a website if it doesn’t perform well and instead try to find a competitor with a working web page. Nowadays over 55% of most website traffic comes from mobile devices. This essentially means that in most cases, you should always design your website with a mobile-first approach.
For example, take a look at our London Page which enables a responsive design. The goal of this particular page is to let readers know that Elerea offers affordable web design in London, Ontario and walk them through our onboarding process.
Though we offer services everywhere, we created a landing page for this location that incorporates responsive design that works for all devices in order to help boost sales.
Testimonials
The most efficient way to advertise is to have someone who can vouch for the quality of your product. For this reason, reviews are essential in comforting a user who is unsure on whether to click that purchase button.
Data suggests that 85% of consumers trust testimonials, and they are much more inclined to make a purchase for a product that has great reviews. Interestingly enough, 90% will only trust sources that have at least a 4-star review or higher.
Lastly, only 10% of consumers are shown to trust a 5-star review. Most people tend to think the product is too good to be true. Sometimes it can be beneficial to show a review in which you went above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. This shows that you value the relationship with your consumers.
White Space
Another basic mistake that companies make when creating a website, is filling every inch of the page with information or images/videos. But in truth, overloading your website with information can distract the user from the main goal of the page. It can also slow down your website if you are pushing out heavy videos and visuals that take time to load on the page.
Instead, we suggest allowing for some clean white space in the page in order to keep it more organized. This will help the user understand what the main focus of the page is, and provide them with only the necessary information for them to convert from a viewer into a buyer.
Always look for the sweet spot that is a mix between text, images/videos, and white space.
Optimization Audits
Optimization Audits are one of the ways you can inspect how well your website is performing. There are many tools online that can inform you of how fast a page is loading, how many users are accessing it, how they got there, and more. It is your responsibility to analyze this data, and leverage it in order to put out more products that resonate with your audience.
In this section, I am going to list a few tools that can help you ensure the quality of your website:
PageSpeed Insights – View how fast your pages load on both desktop and mobile.
Google Search Console – View data about which pages are being indexed on Google and how they are performing.
Google Analytics – Track data on which pages are performing well, how much traffic they are getting, user demographics, and reports about the health of your business.
We recommend you run these audits monthly. Remember, Google can penalize websites that don’t follow their guidelines by not ranking them as high, or sometimes not ranking at all. Always ensure that your pages meet the industry standards.
A/B Split Test
A/B split testing refers to creating alternate versions of a web page, and serving them both on your website to see which one users will respond better. There are a few advantages to this, basically it lets you track the data on the page to find out the design that is most effective to your audience. You can leverage this information to not only create a more powerful page, but we recommend utilizing it in different areas of your website and see the impact it could have.
As much as we like to be sure that the design we chose is the best, nothing beats a true and tried method. Page A could outperform page B by 10-20%, and that could mean hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue at the end of the year. It is important to understand your audience in order to create a better marketing funnel to drive sales easily.
Landing Pages
Landing pages refer to a page a user lands in after clicking a link, either directly or from a search engine such as Google, Yahoo, Bing. But what is so special about these? This type of page should be designed specifically for a certain goal, such as making a purchase or signing up to a newsletter, etc.
The difference here is that in contrast to something like your homepage, which usually contains general information about your business, you have created a dedicated page with only the relevant information that the user searched. This is great for ranking on search engines since the information is 1:1 related to the topic.
Our suggestion is to utilize all of the techniques mentioned in this article, to create powerful landing pages for your website. And attach a call to action (usually a button, or a sign up form) to allow the user to convert from a reader to a buyer at some point in the page, preferably without leaving the page. Average success rate for good landing pages can increase sales by as much as 26%.
